Happy (almost) 4th of July!
Hi Team-
First off, I want to say great job at the meet last night. Thank you parents and fellow coaches! Thank you swimmers. Through everyone’s efforts we were able to edge out Vergennes 288 to 211. It was fairly close, so thank you to all of you who were able to make it work in your busy summer schedules, I deeply appreciate all of you.
I was so proud of how hard so many swimmers fought in the water. Whether or not the outcome of the race turned out in our favor, they gave it their all and put it all out there. No coach can ask for anything more. I can never resist a good sports quote and especially one relating to my favorite, the Olympic Spirit. So bear with me as I share my age group swim coach’s favorite quote from the founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre Coubertin: The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well. So many of our kids fought their hearts out and I am so proud. We had many swimmers completing their first 25 freestyle, way to fight hard Holden Bouteiller and Zara King. Another shout out goes to Wilson Harvey, way to fight hard from the first heat to win the 9-10 boys 25yrd fly. Way to go Thomas Melasky for an incredible freestyle leg of the 9-10 boys Medley Relay, to fight for a come from behind victory. Also congrats to the rest of the relay team as well, James Mack, Emil Feiker, and Sam Miller, great job it takes everyone doing their best to put together a nice relay finish! There were so many exciting races and examples of the fighting spirit. It was a very fun meet to watch. I have included a copy of the results to the end of this email. Also they are always posted on the schedule tab, under past events, and under the specific meet.
Lastly, in trying to keep my emails under 500 words or less for the first time all season. I am going to wrap it up. My editor gave me a strict 500 word count cap. If you can't say it in 500 words, it should not be said.
I want to wish you all a Happy 4th of July!
Reminder: we have no practice tomorrow the 4th and no practice on Friday the 5th.
Have a nice break and I will see you back at the pool on Monday the 8th! We have a big week next week, we have our first away meet at Middlebury on Tuesday the 9th, family fun night the 11th, and the distance meet in Middlebury on Saturday the 13th. Thank you all and have a great night!
Coach Hilary
