officials training this week!

We are actively recruiting new officials. The league is in need of more officials in order to run our meets. No prior competitive swim experience required. See message below. Nicole Chance of Middlebury is interested in organizing a zoom clinic this week! Please consider signing up.

Hey, Coaches,

Happy 4th to everyone! I'm Allison Martaniuk, an official from the Burlington Country Club (and GMA in the winter). At our meet on Tuesday versus Middlebury, I was talking to Nicole Chance about our dire need for officials. I think a lot of teams (especially the smaller ones) are struggling with finding parents who are willing. Nicole is planning on Zooming a CVSL Stroke and Turn clinic at some point this week for anyone who is interested in getting involved. I know our season is short, but the more people we can get apprenticing now, the better off we will be for the later meets, but also for next year.

If you know anyone who is interested and would like to attend the clinic, please send them to Nicole: [email protected] She also has a doodle survey, with the hopes of finding a time that works for everyone. https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/avg78Ogb The process is pretty simple, and will not take much time to get up and running. They would have to:

  • Sit through Nicole's clinic. (She's one of my favorite officials)
  • Take (and pass) an easy, open-book, online test through the USA Swimming website
  • Send your team's coach/head official the results of the test (I think they provide a PDF after they score the test)
  • Apprentice at 4 meets to get an idea of how officiating works.
  • After the 4 sessions, you are on your own!!
  • This clinic can only be used for CVSL meets, thus they can officiate at all our dual meets and the League meet. (Likely not the State meet, but I will double-check)
  • You have to take the clinic/test every 2 years to refresh your memory
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks so much! Allison
